THE TRI-NATION RUGBY LEAGUE FESTIVAL — A POWERFUL FINISH TO THREE DAYS OF PURE RUGBY LEAGUE ACTION

Published: Monday, 1st December, 2025

The final day of the 2025 Tri-Nation Rugby League Festival wrapped up in style at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium — the perfect finish to three action-packed match days (Nov 23, 26 & 30).

We opened the day with two exciting youth exhibition games between Greater Accra and the Ashanti Region. The girls kicked things off, with Ashanti Region defeating Greater Accra 34–0. In the boys’ match, Greater Accra edged Ashanti Region 10–6 in a tight contest.

Then came the main fixtures — Ghana’s national teams meeting Roots Rugby (USA) for the second time.

In the women’s game, Roots came out strong once again, beating the Ghana National Women’s Team 38–0. But the men closed the entire festival with a huge moment — the Ghana Men’s National Team earned their first-ever win over Roots, taking the final match 28–16.

Beyond the field action, this year’s festival also marked a major step forward in Ghana’s technical development. IRL Referee Educator James Jones delivered an intensive officiating program, working with Ghanaian match officials throughout the week to raise standards and support Ghana’s journey toward full IRL membership. His presence, insights, and training were a significant highlight of the festival.
