Kofi Montchon Crowned RLFG Player of the Month for July

Published: Tuesday, 5th August, 2025

The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) has named Kofi Montchon of Nungua Tigers as the Player of the Month for July in the ongoing 2025 RLFG Men’s 13s Championship

Montchon, who plays at standoff, has been a driving force in the Tigers’ campaign, combining vision, game control, and accurate kicking to steer his team through key fixtures. His consistency and leadership earned him overwhelming support in the fan vote, making him the clear choice for the award.

In July, Montchon produced standout performances, including scoring two tries and adding conversions in a late push against Skolars in Week One. In Week Six, he inspired a depleted 11-man Tigers side to a memorable 28-18 win over Accra Panthers, last season’s third-place finishers. He is currently the league’s top kicker with 26 conversions, underlining his reliability in front of the posts.

Announcing the award, RLFG officials highlighted Montchon’s all-round impact. “Kofi Montchon has been phenomenal throughout July. His vision as a standoff, his precision in conversions, and his ability to rise to the occasion when his team needs him most set him apart. This award is a recognition of his talent and hard work.”

Montchon now joins Kevin Boadu (Bulls, May winner) and Adam Marsuu (Accra Panthers, June winner) as Player of the Month recipients in the 2025 season.

Nungua Tigers are currently third on the league table and remain in strong contention for a playoff spot. With Montchon pulling the strings in attack, the club is well-placed to challenge in the weeks ahead.
