In a decisive show of confidence and continuity, Mrs Juliana Storey has been re-elected as President of the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) following the Federation’s board elections held on Saturday, July 6, 2025.

In a strategic appointment that highlights the growing synergy between education and sport, David Akomeah Asokwah, District Director of Education for Afigya Kwabre South, has been named a board member of the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG). His selection forms part of the Federation’s newly elected executive body for the 2025–2027 term, led by re-elected President Mrs. Juliana Storey.

Mr. Asokwah’s appointment is a recognition of his instrumental role in advancing rugby league at the grassroots level, especially within the Ashanti Region, where he has led and coordinated regional rugby league tournaments over the past two years. His hands-on leadership and strong commitment to youth development through sport have made him a respected figure within both the education and sporting communities.

Having Mr. Asokwah on our board strengthens our connection to the educational sector,” said RLFG President Juliana Storey. “He has been a consistent partner in developing the game in the Ashanti Region and shares our belief that rugby league can be a powerful tool for youth transformation

As District Director of Education, Mr. Asokwah has supported numerous initiatives to integrate rugby league into school sports programs, working closely with PE teachers, local clubs, and RLFG development officers. His efforts have introduced the game to hundreds of students and helped build competitive platforms for school teams across the region.

“For the past two years, I’ve witnessed how rugby league can positively shape character, discipline, and teamwork among students,” Mr. Asokwah said. “I’m honored to take on this national role and look forward to helping the sport grow across all regions, especially in our schools.”

Nana Adu Gyamfi’s unique position as both a traditional leader and business executive gives him the capacity to forge strong local and global partnerships, drive investment into the sport, and help promote rugby league within both urban centres and rural communities across the country.

With Mr. Asokwah now on the RLFG Board, the Federation reinforces its goal to make rugby league a nationwide, school-supported sport, while ensuring that education leaders play a central role in its expansion and sustainability.
